Workshop: Introduction to Named Entity Recognition with Python (intermediate level)

February 21, 1:00-3:00 PM

Online

The Hot Source! project, funded by AHRC, is organizing an online workshop on February 21st, 2024, as part of its training activities from 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm.

This Python workshop on Named Entity Recognition (NER) is designed for individuals who are new to NER or those who want to enhance their skills in this area. Participants will be introduced to the fundamentals, techniques and algorithms used in NER.

The workshop will also cover the different libraries and tools available in Python for implementing NER. Participants will gain hands-on experience in implementing NER and will learn how to effectively extract and classify named entities from different types of textual data (political, historical, geographical).

This course is suitable for researchers, data scientists, and anyone interested in natural language processing and text analysis. A good understanding of Python and its libraries is recommended.

Upon completion of this workshop, participants may find it beneficial to further apply their knowledge in their research projects. They can also explore additional resources such as the Data Surgery meetings, where they can seek 1:1 assistance and guidance in implementing acquired techniques in their research.

For individuals looking to expand their knowledge beyond NER, there are beginners and intermediate-level workshops available on topics such as Introduction to Python, Pandas for Data Manipulation, Sentiment Analysis, and Topic Modeling. These workshops provide opportunities to delve deeper into advanced text analysis techniques.

In addition to this workshop, participants can register for a 1:1 ‘Practical Surgery’ session on 6th March.
